About Us

Your Child Is in Great Hands

About Us

The Provost Daycare Society was founded in 2009 by a group of dedicated community members who wanted to provide families in the area with quality childcare. A small dream quickly grew into much more then we could have ever imagined.  With the continued support of our community we were able to move into a larger building that would allow us to provide many more licensed, affordable childcare spaces. Since opening our doors in 2009, we have taken great pride in caring for children and helping foster young minds in allowing them to realize their full potential.

Our goal as a Daycare provider is to have a secure, safe, and happy environment where children feel comfortable while they are away from home. We want to continue to provide our community with quality childcare that  includes a learning environment where children have the tools to excel at their own pace.

Our Image of the Child

At the Provost Daycare, we strongly believe that the children are strong, independent, resourceful, creative, curious, self-thinkers. This is seen throughout our center in different aspects such as our planning, pictures displayed, the materials we use, and through our interactions with the children. For example, we base our planning off of the children’s interests, and many of our activities are left open for the children to have creative freedom. The pictures in our rooms are a reflection of the children’s interests. The materials we use are materials you can find in your homes, such as real glass dishes, real cooking utensils, real tools, etc. Our interactions play a huge role in helping shape the children to be mighty learners.

We spend time with small groups of children in different play centers to enhance their play by offering different ideas and resources, and asking them questions. We use these opportunities to teach appropriate social skills. We ask open-ended questions to get the children to think for themselves, such as “what do you think will happen if you do that?” instead of giving them straight directions, and answering the questions for them. We believe that it is important to speak to the children this way because it is more effective, it helps to build the children’s confidence and independence, and gives them lifelong problem solving skills. Our image affirms each child’s right to be listened to, to be treated with respect, and to participate in daily decisions that affect him or her.

Flight; Alberta's Early Learning and care Framework

The curriculum we use is called Flight; Alberta’s Early Learning and Care Framework. This curriculum is different than a traditional curriculum, we use the goals in the framework to describe and interoperate children’s everyday experiences. Our early childhood curriculum is focused on broad holistic goals instead if specific outcomes for each subject area. We embrace children’s differences and encourage them to be mighty learners and citizens!

Our curriculum offers lots of open ended activities, so that the children can learn through play and to have opportunities to think for themselves. We allow the children to explore through messy play because this gives them the chance to playfully explore and investigate properties of objects and experiment with action and reaction! This helps to build confidence and independence.
